Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, General Secretary Xi Jinping has delivered a series of important speeches on the subject of "respecting the elderly," offering strategic guidance and comprehensive plans for the development of the national aging industry and pension system. As China’s population rapidly ages, many elderly individuals, especially those living alone, experience a solitary existence—characterized by "a lock on the door when they leave and a light-on when they return"—often lacking social interaction and engagement. In this context, addressing the needs of vulnerable populations, promoting the traditional Chinese virtues of respecting, honoring, and caring for the elderly, and fulfilling the social responsibility of supporting seniors have become core elements of CYG’s public welfare initiatives.
The Chinese proverb, "Though the sunset is infinitely beautiful, the clear sky after the rain is even more precious," encapsulates the spirit of CYG’s efforts. In 2021, CYG, along with its subsidiaries, partnered with the Tangjia Qianhuan Community Committee to launch the "Caring for the Elderly, Together We Stand" series of public welfare activities. These initiatives aimed to enhance employees’ awareness of humanitarian care, social responsibility, and volunteerism, while actively engaging with the elderly to improve their quality of life.
During the winter months in Guangdong, characterized by both cold winds and warm sunshine, CYG’s volunteer team carried out home visits to address the practical needs of the elderly. Volunteers engaged in meaningful conversations with seniors, provided essential supplies such as rice, oil, and towels, and responded to their specific requirements by purchasing and installing necessary items such as wall-mounted handrails, corner safety rails, and bathroom heaters. The team also assisted with home repairs, including electrical and door/window maintenance, with the objective of providing tangible support to ensure the elderly could experience a warmer and more secure winter.
The inevitable progression from youth to adulthood and old age is a fundamental aspect of the human experience, and ultimately, the act of respecting the elderly is an expression of self-respect and love. Simple gestures of care not only convey the warmth of the broader community but also embody the goodwill and compassion of CYG’s volunteers.
Guided by the principle of "originating from love," CYG is committed to "spreading love." Through its public welfare efforts, CYG strives to utilize its resources to extend care and support to elderly individuals in need, promoting a positive outlook on aging, advancing the concept of healthy aging, and reinforcing the traditional Chinese values of filial piety and family love. These actions reflect CYG’s ongoing dedication to fulfilling its social responsibilities and contributing to the collective well-being of society.
